The Economy: Stewart vs. Cramer

March 19, 2009 at 9:02 am by: John Phillips

This blog has regularly dealt with the current economic crisis. We’ve discussed layoffs, executive compensation, bad management, no leadership, and increasing employee discontent and litigation.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Comedy Central took on CNBC several days ago for holding itself out as a real financial news network, while actually being in bed with Wall Street. Stewart accused CNBC of allowing the economy to tank, even helping it tank, by not reporting what its reporters knew was going on with banks and Wall Streeters.

Not surprisingly, CNBC took offense, and Mad Money’s Jim Cramer became the spokesperson for CNBC’s outrage. After a week of reports about the fued between Stewart and Cramer, Cramer agreed to be a guest on The Daily Show. His decision is inexplicable, but I for one am glad he did it. Stewart pummeled Cramer. Cramer never laid a glove on Stewart.

I’ve written about a lot of bad economic news. It’s nice of Stewart to provide some comic relief, while simultaneously blistering Cramer and CNBC for their negligence.
