Litigation value: $500,000 to Toby; maybe a couple of bucks to Pam.
Welcome back Toby to The Office! For your trouble, how about a sizable money judgment courtesy of Michael Scott, Dwight Schrute, and the good folks at Dunder Mifflin! Invasion of privacy, intentional infliction of emotional distress, assault . . . the list goes on and on. You’d think with all this action, Toby’s facial expression would have changed at some point during the episode. Alas, it’s not in his repertoire.
It’s been a while since we’ve had an episode containing such blatant improper behavior — and clear liability on behalf of the company. Whether it was Michael threatening Toby, Michael setting up Toby for a crime, or even Ryan and Kelly just making out in front of Toby (that really explicit, lippy making out, like in Top Gun — nasty), Toby endured a lifetime’s worth of emotional distress in just one workday.
Often times, we’ll give some advice in this spot (e.g., what to do about office romances, how to handle pregnancy discrimination, etc.), but the only advice I could give after seeing the “Frame Toby” episode is this: Don’t plant weed (or Caprese salad) in an employee’s desk and call the cops on him; don’t provoke fistfights with employees; and don’t try to get your receptionist in a situation where another employee tries to keep hugging and kissing her even if she struggles.
Sometimes, it’s too easy. That’s what she said.

[...] It is Thursday once again and like always The Office blew my mind. The awkwardness of Michael Scott goes into overdrive with the return of Toby. Toby as you all know for some reason is Michael Scott’s nemesis. He returns from his vacation in Costa Rica and Michael is not too pleased. He ventures to the local loading crew of the company to purchase some illicit drugs to plant in Toby’s desk as a ruse to get him fired. This backfires when the “drugs” in question turn out to be nothing more than salad trimmings. Once again the Office cranks it up a notch to provide loads of laughs. It’s getting ready to be a bang up city. Jim and Pam get a house that ironically Jim’s childhood home. All in all it is a amazing episode. Check it out at NBC’s website here. Blogger Dominic Verstegen has an interesting idea about this being a set up episode and i couldn’t agree more. You can check it out here. [...]
